Recently I moved back to the Vail Valley from Santa Barbara, CA. After 12 years away, I realized that the community had changed greatly, just as my own life had. The natural beauty and recreational opportunities that abound remain an unparalleled source of rejuvenation and joy, but as a working parent my needs are more complex. Fortunately the community, like my life, has evolved and there are a wide variety of resources available to help parents raising kids in these mountains. The trick is finding out about all that is available.
At first I relied on word of mouth from friends and my brother's family. What I really wanted was a site like the one I used in Santa Barbara, www.sbparent.com. As a single working mom this site became an invaluable resource. I utilized it extensively, buying and selling kids items in classified section, referring to the e-newsletters to keep abreast of kid-friendly events, and relying on the camp guide published each spring to enroll my daughter in summer activities before the various deadlines. The purpose of VailParent.com is to make life easier for parents by allowing them to do their research and make helpful connections from home.
I hope each of you finds this site to be helpful. Please contact me if you would like to see other information posted on the site or if information listed is no longer current. I hope to be able to keep you up to date on all that is available in our beautiful valley so that our kids can grow up to love it and appreciate it as much as we do.
